The aim of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for advanced coated cutting tools is to leap to a scientifically higher level of investigation and optimization of coated cutting tools by considering “deposition – coating – interfaces – post-treatment and application” as one comprehensive system. The Christian Doppler Laboratory provides the scientific basis for the development of coated cutting tools with superior performance by
- offering a unique portfolio of characterization methods
- investigating the relationship between deposition process and microstructure
- developing a fundamental understanding of the damage mechanisms of the tools
- developing new coating materials, architectures and designs
Within the laboratory one scientist is responsible for one specific coating system and the respective deposition process, the substrate/coating interface, the post-treatment and the application behavior. The laboratory is divided into five work packages.
